The story began about 3 years ago when I called Commercial Bakeries in Toronto, Canada, to find out if I could buy the cookies directly from them because my Dollar Tree store didn't have any. I spoke with with one of the folks at Commercal, and she said a new contract had been signed and the cookies would be forthcomming. (The Dollar Tree stores were the only outlet for these cookies that we currently knew about).
Well, this happened a few more times so I have become a dear friend of my contact at the bakery! Of course I called Dollar Tree in Chesapeake, Virginia and have become "friends" with our Dollar Tree regional representative.
When I called my friend this past November or so, she said Dollar Tree hadn't signed a contract, so I called Dollar Tree again. Sure enough, the cookies did come in, so when I called my friend at Commercial again, she didn't know I had put in my plea to Dollar Tree, and she said that SOMEONE must have called Dollar Tree. I said, "It was me!". She was amazed!!!
She then mentioned that a man from East Sparta, Ohio had called about the cookies! So we looked him up on-line, got his phone number, and I called him. Remarkably, in dialing this "unknown" man, I found a great person and we talked for a half hour! To my suprise, a couple of weeks later a box arrived with 6 boxes of cookies and two shirts embroidered with a Maple Creme Cookie logo which now appears on this page. I called him to thank him and said we should start a M.L. creme cookie club. This time we talked 45 minutes!
Since then my contact at Commercial has told me about a man in New York City who is trying to find the cookies. I got his e-mail and am now in touch with him. Dollar Tree doesn't have any outlet in N.Y. City so this poor man is getting desperate. I'll work on that!
Anyway, it's a long and happy tale and a great diversion in this world of financial collapse, swine flu, wars and discontent to retreat to somthing as simple as a cookie!
